Kaprun - Mooserboden Reservoir

About 42km away.

A visit to the Glockner-Kaprun Tauern power plant is certainly worth it. At the Mooserboden, you can enjoy the splendid view over the glacier in the rear Kaprun Valley in the Hohe Tauern National Park, hike over the Mooser Dam to the visitor centre or join a dam tour during which you’ll learn about the inner workings of the valley dam and our measures for construction security.

Experience one of the largest water power plants.

One of the hugest power plants in the world with the Mooserboden Reservoir (with a capacity of 84.9 million cubic metres) and the Wasserfallboden Reservoir (81.2 million cubic metres) freed Austria from its dependence on nuclear power. The water in the Mooserboden Reservoir is contained by the 107m high and 494m long Mooser Dam and the 112m high and 357m long Drossen Dam. The reservoir lies 2,040 metres above sea level. The Wasserfallboden Reservoir, 1670m above sea level, is held by the 120m high and 357m long Limberg Dam.
